When we began Vegas Strong, our goal was to eventually move to high school graduation year-based teams. There are huge developmental and recruiting benefits from playing with your age group. With the tremendous growth we have experienced over the past two years, we believe now is the time to begin introducing this structure. This fall/winter, we will run a 25/26 team, 26/27 team, 29/30 team, and regional teams that will have no grad year restriction. 28s and 31s who meet the skill level of the graduation level teams will be eligible to play even though the name doesn’t include their graduation year. For example, a high-level 2028 may play on the 26/27 team and a high-level 2031 may play on the 29/30 team.
Because of this exciting change, tryouts will run a little differently. We know that everyone has different reasons for wanting to play club lacrosse, and we want to make sure we offer options that provide the best experience for the greatest number of players. We will still have a place for every player.

THE TENTATIVE TRYOUT DATE IS SATURDAY, AUGUST 24th. TRYOUT REGISTRATION WILL BE OPEN JULY 15th THROUGH AUGUST 4th.

High SCHOOL TRYOUTS:
For high school players, tryouts will be split into two choices: national tryouts or regional tryouts.
National Tryout:
The national tryout is for players whose primary goal is to get recruited to play lacrosse in college. In other words, you want to play lacrosse in college no matter what. This tryout is for players who want to compete and be seen on a national stage. It will be open to high-level 2025s who played the 2024 summer season, and high-level 2026s, 2027s, and 2028s. We define high-level as highly consistent and fast paced play. This means catching the majority of your passes, using your right and left hands equally, ball security - strong cradle, and high IQ and game sense.

The national tryout will not be open to 2025s who chose not to play this past summer (summer 2024) or 2029s. These restrictions are in place so that we can prioritize recruiting for 2025s who spent their summer working to finish their recruiting process and the 2026s-2028s who are in the midst of their recruiting process or just beginning. 2029s are not eligible to play in the major tournament that the national teams will attend in November, the IWLCA Presidents Cup, due to age restrictions. Therefore, it does not make sense for them to be on either team.
Our rosters for the 25/26 and 26/27 teams will be selected from the players who participate in the national tryout. Our goal for the roster size for each team is 6 midfielders, 6 attackers, 6 defenders, and 2 goalies. Those not selected for either graduation year team will be automatically placed on a regional team. There will be a place for everyone to play.
Players who accept a position on a graduation year-based team are expected to attend all tournaments. We will not make financial exceptions for missed tournaments on these teams (unless due to injury). The reason for this decision is based solely on commitment level. We expect the players on these teams to be at every practice and every tournament to achieve the highest level results as a team and as an individual wanting to play in college.

Regional Tryout:
Regional tryout is for players who want to play lacrosse at a competitive club level. Players who select regional tryout want to continue to develop and grow into great lacrosse players, but can't or don't want to travel nationally. College recruiting is still an option and will be pursued based on the desires of the player. The only difference is that tournaments will happen at a regional level (Arizona, California, Nevada) rather than a national level (Florida, New England, Maryland).
Regional tryout is open to all 2025-2028s. Everyone will be placed on a team. The number of regional teams will depend on how many players sign up. We will be creating a house league/practice-only option for players we feel are not yet tournament ready or who are unable to travel.

MIDDLE SCHOOL TRYOUTS:
The graduation level team for middle school players will be a 29/30 team, but will be open to 2029s-2031s. Our goal for the roster size is 6 midfielders, 6 attackers, 6 defenders, and 2 goalies.

All middle school players will need to try out in order to be placed on either the tournament team or house league. We will be creating a house league/practice-only option for middle school players who are not yet tournament ready or who are unable to travel for tournaments. As we mentioned previously, we will find a place for everyone!

Players who accept a position on the middle school tournament team are expected to attend all tournaments. We will not make financial exceptions for missed tournaments on this team (unless due to injury). The reason for this decision is based solely on commitment level. Our current Platinum team has shown that they are ready and able to be competitive within their age group, and we want to reward that commitment. We expect the players on this team to be at practice consistently and to attend every tournament to achieve the highest level results, so that they are fully prepared for the next level in their lacrosse careers.
